APWIMS/WISDOM Spring Meeting

This meeting took place on Friday, June 15th from 12-1:30pm in Conference Room 2 of the UNC Cancer Hospital. The topic was sexual harassment in the workplace: recognizing it, responding to it, and how to create a culture that minimizes it.

We were fortunate to have representatives from the UNC Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance, the Carolina Women’s Center, and the Orange County Rape Crisis Center to facilitate the discussion.

The APWIMS/WISDOM Fall Meeting focused on mentoring women in the medical sciences.  Susan Girdler and Amelia Drake briefly presented relevant UNC data on the subject to be followed by a facilitated group discussion. The group then shared mentoring experiences- with the objective being to identify good mentoring practices.

We were so fortunate to have Deans Joanne Jordan (Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development), Wesley Burks (Executive Dean for UNC’s SOM), and Paul Godley (Vice Dean for Diversity and Inclusion) serve as panelists for our May 1st spring luncheon on equity and inclusion.
